Description
Blackheath Cottage is a game keeper's cottage located on the Powderham Estate, dating from the early 19th century, with a later addition at the right end. The cottage is constructed of red sandstone and features a thatched roof with gabled ends and an axial stack, while the red brick addition has a red pantile roof. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a small single-storey addition on the right. The front elevation is mostly blind, featuring only a 19th-century plank door with a cover strip and a thatched porch supported by posts. The left side has a canted bay window on the ground floor with two-light casements, and there are similar two-light casements on the first floor and at the rear. The interior is plain. This isolated cottage has a striking profile when viewed from the road between Exminster and Kenton.
