Pair of shops with accommodation over. Mid C19. Stucco with quoins at upper floor angles and timber shopfronts. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; No.4 plus attic storey. No.3, two windows; No.4, two windows. Channelled stucco pilasters with acanthus capitals supporting scrolled fascia brackets with palmette stops flank shopfronts and No.3 panelled house door with overlight. No.3 with plate glass shop windows and central recessed, splayed entrance of glazed double doors with overlight; fascia board with moulded cornice extends above house door. No.4 with plate glass shop window and part-glazed entrance door to right; similar fascia board and cornice. Both 1st floors with eared architrave 2-pane sashes and moulded sills on shaped brackets; No.3 with original cast-iron window guards. No.3 with dentil cornice and blocking course behind which a C20 dormer; No.4 continues cornice but with pedimented attic storey above having central sash flanked by 2 smaller half sashes. INTERIOR: No.4 believed to retain good late C19 shop interior with carved wood panels, mirrors and stained glass window; No.3 had similar interior until c1973 but now plain. The Royal Britannia, Nos 3 & 4 and Nos 8-12 (consec) form a group with Nos 1 & 2 The Strand.
