Description
Nos. 3, 4, and 5 Britannia Row are three small houses that form part of a terrace, built in the early or mid 19th century. They have rendered, solid fronts and slated roofs, with chimneys located on the right-hand side walls. The houses are two storeys high and feature three-window fronts with doorways in the center of the ground storey. The windows have eight panes, except for a blind window in the center of the second storey. Nos. 4 and 5 have six-panelled doors, while No. 3 has been altered to include a door divided into two halves, with the lower section panelled and the upper section glazed, along with a 20th-century porch. The interiors have not been inspected. The row appears on the 1840 tithe map located in the Devon Record Office, but it is not mentioned in the 1841 census return; however, Nos. 1-11 are listed in the census return from April 1851. The occupants at that time were mostly sailors, including some employed by the coast guard, along with a sailmaker and a laundress.
