Description

Milestone. Late 18th century. This limestone pillar has a pitched top and features fine lettering on the front that reads "XCI / Miles from / LONDON / XIII / from / AMESBURY." There is a bench mark incised below the lettering. The section of road from Amesbury to Willoughby Hedge was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
