Description

Milestone located about 500 metres east of Willoughby Hedge, likely dating from the late 18th century. It is a limestone pillar featuring incised lettering on the front that reads: "XCVI / Miles from / LONDON / XVIII / from Amesbury." This section of the road between Amesbury and Willoughby Hedge was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
