Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. It is constructed of good dressed limestone with a tiled roof and features three pairs of gauged brick spiral stacks and coped verges. The building is two stories high and has five windows.
A 1930s planked door is located in a beaded stone architrave to the right of the center, with two 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements to the right of the door, and 4-light and 3-light mullioned casements to the left. On the first floor, there are two 3-light mullioned casements to the left and three 2-light casements to the right. The three right-hand bays are dated 1716 on a stone tablet above the door, which also features the name William Oborne and scrolled decoration. The left return of the building has 2-light casements.
At the rear, there are 2-light mullioned casements and a glazed door leading to an 18th-century addition, with a 1930s and 1960s wing to the right that includes steel casements. The interior has been largely remodeled during the 1930s, but retains a 17th-century staircase with turned balusters and square newels that has been reset against the rear wall. There is also a planked door with strap hinges leading to a cellar beneath the 18th-century range. A bedroom at the north end has the initials R°E 1697 scratched on a window mullion. The farmhouse was formerly part of the Clouds Estate, and the twisted brick stacks are a notable feature found in several estate cottages within the parish.
