Description

This milestone, located about 400 meters east of the parish boundary with Chilmark, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top. The front of the pillar has incised lettering that reads: "XC / Miles from / LONDON / XII / from / Amesbury." The road on which it stands, connecting Amesbury and Willoughby Hedge, was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
