Description

Chilmark House is a detached house dating from the late 17th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate hipped roof and ashlar stacks. The front façade is two-storey and has three windows. A central classical porch features Doric columns and pilasters, leading to double doors with margin-pane glazing. Flanking the porch are two 16-pane sashes. The first floor also has three 16-pane sashes, all incorporating blind boxes. Deep eaves are supported by brackets. The left return displays one blind window and two 16-pane sashes, one to each floor, with a plat band. At the rear, a 6-panelled door is set within a chamfered stone case. To the left are a 2-light casement and a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, and to the right is a further 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, all with a continuous hoodmould. A hollow-moulded string-course runs along the first floor, above which are three 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The interior includes reeded fireplace surrounds with paterae and internal shutters.
