Description
No. 2 The Street is a building that originally consisted of two cottages, now combined into one. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The structure is made of dressed coursed limestone and features a pantiled roof, which was previously thatched, along with brick stacks.
The building is single-storey with an attic and has four windows. The central two bays are slightly recessed. There are planked doors on the left and right, set in stone chamfered cases, with the left door displaying a Sun Insurance disc. To the left of the doors are two-light and three-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows, while the center has two three-light mullioned windows and one three-light window to the right.
The left gable, which faces forward, includes a three-light mullioned window in the attic and has coped verges. The center features a two-light leaded casement in a dormer, and the right gable has raised eaves with two two-light mullioned windows on the first floor. The rear of the building has several two, three, and four-light mullioned windows and casements. Although the interior is not accessible, it is reported to have open fireplaces and chamfered beams.
