Description

The Forge is a cottage with an attached disused forge, dating from around 1700, with the forge added in the 19th century. It is built of dressed limestone and has a corrugated iron roof, which was formerly thatched, along with gable end brick stacks. The building is two stories high and features two windows on the front. There is a central planked door set in a stone chamfered case, with a 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned window to the right and a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window to the left. On the first floor, there are a 3-light and a 2-light mullioned window. The roof has stone coped verges.

On the left side of the building, there is a 1-light recessed chamfered window on the ground, first, and attic floors. The right side has a 2-light mullioned window in the attic. The rear of the building features mullioned windows and a chamfered central doorcase, which is now part of a 20th-century extension. Inside, there is a central through passage, chamfered beams with stepped stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs, and planked doors. The forge area includes a planked stable door on the left, a wooden shuttered window, and double sliding doors on rollers, with a tiled roof and a brick stack.
