Description

The Forge is a cottage and forge dating back to approximately 1500, with the forge possibly added in the 16th or early 17th century. It is timber-framed, featuring substantial timbering with curved braces and brick infill. The roof is tiled, with brick ridge and end stacks. The building originally comprised three units. It is a single-storey structure with an attic, originally containing one window. The cottage section has a plank door and two 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, alongside a dormer with a horizontal sliding sash window. The forge, located on the left side, has a plank door and two windows with external shutters. The right return side displays curved braces and a 19th-century external stack. Exposed timber framing is visible at the rear.

Inside, the building retains exposed timber framing and ceiling beams, and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. It includes an 8-panelled door and winder stairs. A room above the forge has a composition floor and two internal leaded windows. The roof structure features heavy timbers with curved braces and windbraces. The forge retains its original hearth. Also present is a 19th-century brick cart house with plank doors located on the left side.
