Description
Rose Cottage is a detached house dating from around 1700. It is built of dressed limestone and has a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched, with stone and brick gable end stacks. The house features a lobby-entry design and is two storeys high with a three-window front. The central entrance has a planked door with a stone chamfered case and a hoodmould above it. On either side of the door are three-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The first floor has three 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The left side of the house has two 1-light recessed chamfered windows, and the right side also has two 1-light recessed chamfered windows. The rear of the house has a planked door and mullioned windows similar to those at the front. The gables feature coped verges.
Inside, the cottage retains many original features, including moulded plank and muntin partitions on both the ground and first floors, planked doors with strap hinges and wooden latches. The room on the left has a bolection-moulded fireplace surround, while the room on the right has an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel set on chamfered stone jambs. The staircase has pierced splat balusters leading to the landing.
