Description
The Forge is a cottage and forge dating from the late 16th century, with extensions from the 19th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The building features part timber framing with painted brick infill and part painted brick construction. The cottage has an old tile gabled roof, while the forge has a tile hipped roof. The structure has a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays, with the forge extension located on the southeast side. It is two storeys high at the cottage and one storey at the forge, which has a chimney on the rear roof slope.
On the road front, the forge is on the left side and includes a plinth, a small casement window with a glazing bar on the left, and a plain plank stable door on the right. The cottage features two 20th-century two-light metal casement windows with leaded lights on both the ground and first floors, along with a 20th-century planked entrance door on the right. Inside, the cottage has chamfered joists with run-out stops, while the beams are similar but feature bar stops. The forge retains a furnace and bellows that are still in use.
