Description

Number 27 is a house dating from the early to mid 19th century, located at a right angle to Langley Road in Chippenham. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone rubble, featuring freestone quoins and architraves. The main block has a plain tile roof with coped gables, moulded kneelers, and ashlar stacks, while the left wing has a slate roof with carved bargeboards. The house has a double-depth plan with a lower wing to the left.

The exterior consists of two storeys, with the main block presenting a symmetrical three-window range and the left wing having a two-window range. The main block features rusticated surrounds, while the wing has plain surrounds. The first-floor windows are positioned at eaves level, and there is a six-panel door with glazed upper panels beneath a 20th-century porch. The main block also has a semicircular-arched eight-over-eight pane sash window, and the ground floor is fitted with eight-over-eight pane sashes, although the first-floor windows have 20th-century glazing. A cast-iron trellis spans the main block, indicating a former canopy extending from the platband. The left wing has six-over-one pane sash windows on the first floor.

A rubblestone wall with stone coping extends forward from the left corner of the property. The interior has not been inspected.
