Description
Number 2 is a house located on Dollar Street in Cirencester, dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof that is hipped to the right. The left-end stack has been rebuilt using concrete blockwork. The building features two gables at the front, and a straight joint at the center indicates that it was built in two phases, with the left side likely being the later addition.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. On the first floor, there are two 6/6-pane sashes and one 8/8-pane sash, all set in ovolo-moulded stone surrounds, which probably originally included stone mullions and transoms that have since been removed. There is also a 2-light leaded iron casement in a similar surround in the right gable, and a 19th-century 4/4-pane sash with an ovolo-moulded lintel and renewed jambs in the left gable. The ground floor windows are similar to those on the first floor.
To the right of the house, there is a door that has six panels, with the upper two panels being glazed, and it features an exposed timber lintel. This door is set into the Abbey Wall, which is also on Gosditch Street. There is a blocked opening to the right of the door, also with an exposed timber lintel, situated in the Abbey Wall. A moulded drip course runs above the ground and first floors, as well as over the windows in the gables. The interior has not been inspected.
