Description
Number 29 is an early to mid-18th century house located in Chippenham. The front facade is constructed from limestone ashlar, while the rear is of rubble. The roof is slated with brick stacks at the rear. The house follows a central-entry plan with two units, and is three storeys high.
The symmetrical front has three windows per floor. A plinth and platbands delineate the floors. The second floor windows are 8/8-pane sashes, with the central window blind and featuring painted glazing bars. The first floor windows are 8/1-pane sashes, with the bottom sashes removed, while the ground floor features wider openings containing late 19th century horned 2/2-pane sashes. A stepped voussoir arch sits above a 20th-century door. The returns and rear are plain. The interior of the house was not inspected.
A late 19th century rubble lean-to extends forward to the left, with freestone quoins. To the right, an approximately 2-metre-high ashlar wall extends forward for about 2 metres and then turns to the right along the road for about 5 metres, constructed as a rubble wall with freestone quoins and a 20th century gate.
