Description
These are a pair of 17th-century cottages located on the south side of St Anne’s Street. The cottages are two storeys and have an attic, constructed with brick bands and coursed flint bands between, with brick dressings around the doors. A projecting brick band runs around the building between the two storeys. They have a steeply pitched gable end roof covered in old tile, a central chimney stack with a moulded brick capping, and four gabled dormer windows with wooden casements.
The front has four windows on each floor. Number 80 retains 18th and 19th century sash windows with original glazing bars, while Number 78 has 3-light 19th-century casements. On the ground floor, Number 78 has renewed casements, and Number 80 boasts 18th-century camber-headed sash windows. There are two doors, each with six flush panels, moulded cases, and flat, moulded cantilevered hoods.
Numbers 44 to 74 (even) and Numbers 78 to 82 (even) form a group.
