Description
These are three cottages on Bridge Street, likely dating from the 16th century or earlier. The walls are constructed of flint with brick dressings, and the roof is covered in red pantiles. The cottages have two storeys. Numbers 3 and 5 have a four-bay ground floor and a two-bay first floor. Number 3 features a sash window on the first floor with glazing bars. Number 5 has sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arches on both the ground and first floors. Number 3 has a 20th-century door, and a ground floor window set within a segmental brick arch. A quoined cornice is also present. Features like gable brackets, changes in flint courses, and the overall appearance suggest later heightening and re-roofing. The roofs are steeply pitched, with a west parapet gable constructed of brick and tumbled corners. An attic casement window is visible. An east parapet to the party wall separates the cottages from number 1 to the west. At the east end, a gable stack is present, constructed of diamond brick. There is no stack base to the party wall. A single-bay, two-storey wing, with a first-floor screen to an outshut behind, is also present. The rear of the cottages includes a two-light casement window with glazing bars set in an earlier brick surround, along with outhouses at right angles (number 3). A lean-to extension is attached to number 5.
