Description

This is a terrace of three cottages on Church Street, Stiffkey, dating to the early 19th century. They represent a refronting and conversion of part of a 16th-century barn originally belonging to Great Yard House. The cottages are two storeys high with lean-to outbuildings at the rear. Each has a single window. The roof is tiled with pantiles, featuring an original corbelled parapet to the west gable and a plain verge to the east gable. Brick ridge stacks are present. The construction is of flint and brick rubble with brick dressings to the gables. The north front was largely rebuilt in brick and colourwashed. The upper floors have Yorkshire casement windows, while the ground floor windows are segmental-arched sash windows with half-glazed doors set within segmental-arched doorways. Blocked windows are visible in the gables.
