Description
Great Yard House is a 16th-century house located on the south side of Wells Road in Stiffkey. The building features walls made of flint with brick quoins and a roof covered in red pantiles. It has an 'L' shaped plan and consists of two storeys.
The garden front showcases 20th-century oak mullioned and transomed windows, with three located on the south gable, each under a triangular moulded brick pediment. The east range has been rebuilt in the 20th century using older materials, while the west range features brick plinth quoins and window surrounds, with a lozenge pattern of red brick diapers on the returns.
The north front has a coped brick parapet and 20th-century steel framed casements. The gables are the least altered parts of the house. There are 20th-century stacks on the gables of the north range and one at the eaves of the west range return. Inside, the transverse beams in the single pile north range have basic chamfer and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
