Description
The Stiffkey War Memorial Cross is a grey granite structure located on the north side of Church Street, west of the village hall. It is prominently placed on top of a bank within an enclosure, which is railed at the front and has a flint and brick wall at the rear. Access to the memorial is provided by a set of steps on the eastern side.
The memorial features a dressed (but not polished) wheel-head cross that stands on a tapering plinth, which has a single-stepped base resting on a concrete foundation. The plinth displays inscriptions made with applied metal lettering.
The main dedicatory inscription reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE STIFFKEY MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918" followed by ten names, and "LEST WE FORGET." A later inscription commemorating the Second World War is located on the front face of the base and reads: "1939 – 1945" followed by four names.
