Description
Joiners Hall, located at 56 and 58 St Anne's Street, dates back to 1594 and features an early 17th century front. This three-storey building has a two-gabled facade made of timber frame with plaster infilling and an old tile roof. At the second floor level, there is one three-light casement window in each gable. A moulded cornice runs across the building at the base of the gables.
On the first floor, there are two tall 15-light moulded and panelled wood mullioned and transomed rectangular bays, each with narrow lights positioned at right angles. These bays are supported by three carved figure brackets. Below, at ground floor level, there are two panelled doors flanking two nine-light mullioned and transomed windows, which are bracketed forward. All windows feature modern leaded lights with an octagonal pattern. Very little of the interior remains intact.
Joiners Hall is part of a group that includes Nos 44 to 74 (even) and Nos 78 to 82 (even). The property is owned by the National Trust, which acquired it in 1898.
