Description

This is a pair of 18th-century cottages located on Paddock Road, dated 1731, as indicated by bricks at the base of the ground floor windows. The cottages are two storeys with an attic, and originally comprised three bays. The construction is primarily flint with brick quoins and horizontal brick bands spaced 18 inches apart. The right-hand cottage has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is covered in old tiles. The windows are a mix of irregular casements and one sash window. Simple doors are situated at the gable ends. Number 2 features a gabled porch and a mid-19th-century two-storey extension to the rear, which includes two half-dormers. Number 4 has a single-storey porch extension and a large, tapering external chimney stack. The rear of Number 4 reveals older timber framing. The interior of Number 2 has been remodelled into an open-plan layout. A ground floor chimney piece bears the date 1731.
