Description

This is a pair of cottages, originally three, dating to the late 17th century. Number 27 is largely built on a brick base, while number 29 has whitewashed brick infill between the timber framing. Both cottages have old tile roofs and substantial brick external stacks, with a lias plinth on the stack for number 27 and a fire window on both. The cottages are arranged in an L-shape, with a 4-window front. Number 27 has an open brick porch adjoining its external stack, while number 29 has a central entrance. Both entrances feature 20th-century studded doors. The windows are a mix of 19th and 20th-century casements with varying glazing bar patterns. The left return side of number 27 has a 20th-century stable door and a later extension. The right return side of number 29 has a visible external stack. The rear of the cottages reveals exposed timber framing and some lath and plaster infill. Inside number 27, there is exposed timber framing, broad-chamfered ceiling beams, two fireplaces, and flagstone floors. 20th-century additions have been made to the rear of the property.
