Description

Beagle Cottage and Thimble Cottage form a row of four cottages situated on the west side of Bearley Road in Aston Cantlow. The buildings have origins dating back to the 17th century, but were largely rebuilt in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Number 27 is partly timber-framed with brick infill on the first floor; the remainder of the row is constructed of brick, featuring a brick dentil cornice. The roofs are covered with old tiles, and brick ridge stacks are present. Numbers 27 and 28 are arranged with a two-unit plan, while numbers 29 and 30 have a single-unit plan with an outshut. The cottages are one storey and attic, with a five-window range. Number 27 has a 20th-century stable door, while numbers 28 to 30 have plank doors. Casement windows with glazing bars are present, and all ground-floor openings feature brick segmental arches. Number 27 has a half-dormer, and the left return side displays a jowled post and a small rectangular bay window. The rear of number 27 shows some exposed timber framing. The interior of number 27 includes exposed timber framing.
