Description
The Old Forge is a house that was originally three cottages and a forge, dating back to the 17th century, but it was largely rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The building is timber framed with plastered infill and features a 20th-century tile roof, along with brick and lias stacks for the internal and ridge chimneys. It has a T-plan layout, consisting of one storey and an attic with three dormers, and a four-window range. The left section of the building retains its original framing with heavy timbers. There is a mid-20th-century door and an open timber porch, as well as a small canted bay window to the right. The windows display irregular fenestration, featuring mid-20th-century leaded-light wood casements. The projecting wing on the right has renewed jowled posts, while the left return side shows original exposed framing. At the rear, there is exposed framing and a wing made of whitewashed brick. Inside, some original heavy ceiling beams and an open fireplace can be found, along with a flat-roofed single-storey addition at the rear.
