Description
A pair of cottages located in Hatherleigh, dating from around the late 17th or early 18th century. They are constructed of rendered rubble and cob walls with a gable ended thatched roof. A brick stack is located at the left-hand end and there is a projecting rear lateral stack constructed of rendered rubble with a brick shaft and an oven projection. Originally, the cottages may have been one house, with each now featuring a single-room plan. The front elevation is asymmetrical with three windows. Number 31 has an early 19th-century 16-pane sash window on the first floor, and a 2-light casement window below. A 1-light casement window is positioned on the first floor to the right, with a plank door below. Number 33 has a 3-light casement window facing the street on the first floor, and a 2-light casement window below. A further plank door is located on the right-hand side. The interior of Number 33 features a rough wooden lintel above the fireplace. Roof timbers are not visible from the first floor, and there is no access to the loft space.
