Description

Old Church House is a house that likely had some connection with the nearby church, as it borders the churchyard. It underwent heavy remodelling in the early to mid 19th century, transforming a 17th century or earlier house. The exterior features plastered walls that may include some cob, and it has a low-pitched nipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. There are two rendered brick lateral stacks at the rear.

The house has an L-shaped plan with two main rooms, the left-hand room being larger and slightly projecting, along with a central narrow stairhall. A small outbuilding, believed to be a stable, from the 18th or 19th century is attached to the front of the left-hand room.

The house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front, with the left side projecting slightly. The first floor features a window in front of the projection and one window on each floor of the right-hand part. All these windows are early to mid 19th century Gothic-style, with three lights, wooden mullions, cinquefoiled heads, and square hoodmoulds. There is a 19th century plank door on the inner face of the projection, and the lower outbuilding on this side also has a plank door. The rear wall of this addition, facing the churchyard, incorporates a medieval two-light window with crude pointed heads. The main part of the house on this side has two windows on each floor, similar in design to those at the front.

Inside, the left-hand room features a fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel and dressed stone jambs.
