Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, originally built in the 17th century and remodelled in the early to mid 19th century, with a 20th-century addition. The structure features rendered walls, likely made of cob and rubble, and has a gable-ended slate roof with four brick stacks, one axial and the others at the gable ends.

The original layout consisted of a three-room plan with a through passage, with the lower end located to the right. The hall stack is positioned against the passage. During the 19th-century remodelling, the house was refronted, the partition between the hall and inner room was removed, and a wing was added to the back of the higher end. Further rear additions were made in the 20th century.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical four-window front with early to mid 19th-century two and three-light diamond leaded pane casements that have cinquefoiled heads and square hoodmoulds. To the left of centre, there is a glazed double door of a similar design with two-centred arched heads. A contemporary glazed porch with a canopied lead roof has a two-centred doorway on the front and right-hand side walls. There is also a 19th-century six-panel door behind. The 19th-century wing is located at the left-hand end, with 20th-century additions to the right. The interior was inaccessible during the survey but is noted to have mostly 19th-century fittings and joinery, along with some exposed 17th-century chamfered ceiling beams.
