Description

No. 10 in Jacobstowe is a cottage dating from around the mid-17th century, with a 20th-century addition. It is constructed of rendered cob and rubble walls, topped with a thatched, gable-ended roof. A brick stack is located at the left-hand end. Originally, the cottage likely had either one or two rooms; it now consists of a large, heated room to the left and a smaller room to the right. A single-story addition was built in the 20th century on the left-hand end. The front facade has a regular two-window arrangement. The upper floor features a 19th-century small-paned window on the left side. The ground floor has 2-light and 3-light casement windows, also from the 20th century. A gabled porch with a 20th-century glazed door is situated at the rear. Inside, there is a substantial chamfered cross beam with raised spade stops. An open fireplace, with a chamfered lintel partially obscured by a 19th-century mantlepiece, is present. The visible roof timbers on the first floor are straight and insubstantial, indicating they are unlikely to be original.
