Description

Dean's Farmhouse is a 18th-century building, with alterations circa 1820, originally fronted around 1727. It is located in Lower Caversham. The front of the farmhouse is red brick with black and blue headers, featuring a plinth and a band above the ground floor. It has two storeys and an attic, with five bays. The windows are flush-framed glazing bar sash windows with segmental heads over the ground floor. A central Regency doorway has a reeded surround, a six-panel (flush reeded) door, and a Gothick fanlight. The roof is hipped and covered with old tiles, with a modern brick chimney rising off the ridge and a gabled dormer on the north return. A long rear extension was added to the south circa 1820. The interior features a Regency hall and staircase. A pleasant range of mainly mid-19th century farmbuildings are situated to the north and north-east. The farmhouse enjoys a very attractive setting facing the river. Dean’s Farm and Dean’s Farm Cottage are connected to Star Road by a raised flint causeway.
