Description

This is a pair of semi-detached cottages located on Hindon Road, East Knoyle. They were built in the mid-18th century, with a one-bay extension added in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed of English garden wall bond brick with vitrified headers and have a half-hipped thatched roof and brick stacks.

The cottages are two storeys high and feature a four-window facade. Number 9, on the right, has a half-glazed door within a weatherboarded porch, alongside two 19th-century two-light casement windows to the right. Number 10 features a half-glazed door set within a 20th-century porch, with two three-light leaded casement windows. On the first floor, Number 10 has two three-light leaded casement windows, while Number 9 has two 19th-century casements. The rear of the cottages includes integral outshuts and a timber-framed wall above. The left return side is built of dressed limestone and has a shuttered attic window.

Inside Number 10, there is a blocked open fireplace, along with planked doors and doors with fielded panels. There are also notable egg and dart moulded architraves to doors and windows between the main building and the outshut, which are likely to be reset.
