Description

No. 15 East Street is a house and yard dating from the early to mid 19th century, built on an earlier structure. It features squared rubble stone with ashlar crossings and slate roofs. The main part of the building is two stories high with three windows and has flush quoins. It appears to have been rebuilt after a stable range to the left. The upper windows and the ground floor left window are twelve-pane sashes, while the center has a door with an overlight and a shop front to the right, which includes a door and paired nine-pane windows. There is a decorative pierced cast-iron grille above the shop front.

The rear wing on the north side is made of rubble stone and includes two-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion windows with hood moulds, dating from around 1700. There are two such windows on the ground floor and one in the former gable above. The yard to the left has a lower, two-story front with a roof hipped to the north. It features two two-light Tudor-style mullion windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the left, all with hood moulds. There is a broad elliptical-arched coach entry to the right with a hood mould and double doors. The windows have leaded lights, and the rear wall is made of red brick. On the far side of the service court, there is a two-story range of red brick with two cambered-head upper windows. This property is said to have been a butcher's shop with a slaughterhouse in the adjacent yard.
