Description
No. 20 New Road is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from rendered limestone rubble, with brick gable stacks and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and features a front left wing that is set at right angles.
The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window range. It is double-fronted, showcasing a round-arched doorway with a fanlight above, a blocked central window on the first floor, and 8/8-pane sash windows. The projecting front of the wing to the right includes a well-preserved mid-19th century shop front, which features a cornice, a bracketed cill, and a two-panel window beneath a wide canted first-floor bay. To the left, there is a flat-roofed porch with a 20th-century door.
Inside, the building includes a flagged hall, a left-hand lateral dogleg stair, a right-hand fireplace, and cupboards set into the walls.
