Description
The Harris Social and Welfare Club is a mid-19th century building originally serving as stables and a fire station, now functioning as a social club. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with render, featuring ashlar gable stacks and a stone slate double-pile roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a four-window range.
The front facing the road includes a round-arched doorway with a flat-headed doorway inset, marked "FIRE ENGINE HOUSE," and has timber lintels above the right-hand casement windows. The right-hand section of the building is windowless and has a lateral stack. The opposite side showcases a pair of coped gables with crow-stepped sections and lateral stacks, while the south front features plain surrounds to stone-mullioned and transomed windows.
Inside, alterations have been made, with iron posts now supporting the first-floor beams. The building was originally constructed as the stable range for Woodlands, which is not included in this listing, and it incorporated a fire station at road level.
