Description

The building at 23A, The Green, Calne, is an 18th-century national school, later converted into a house, with alterations made around 1975. Constructed of stucco with limestone dressings and a slate roof, it has a T-shaped plan, featuring a central axial hall. The architectural style is Picturesque Tudor Gothic.

The school is a single storey and has a three-window front. It is characterised by coped end gables and a projecting central gable with moulded kneelers. The left-hand side features a segmental-arched doorway with a label mould and ridge door. To the right is a two-light Tudor-arched window with a label mould, and a similar three-light window on the right-hand section. The central gable contains a small niche holding a figure, positioned above a tall three-light window with a two-centre-arched head, a hood mould, and intersecting tracery. The side returns feature two-centre arched niches with hood and head stops. Two late 20th-century gabled dormers have been inserted into the roof. The interior has been altered.
