Description
This is a milepost located about 250 metres west of the drive to the Old Rectory, dating from 1840. It is a cast-iron pillar designed in a classical style, featuring a pedimented top. The lettering is clear and reads: SALISBURY / 19 / WARMINSTER / 2. This milepost is part of a series of cast-iron mileposts and boundary posts made in Warminster by the iron founders Carson and Miller around 1840, which coincided with the implementation of the Turnpike Act for the radial system in the area.
