Description
The Coach House is a detached house dating from the mid-17th century, with a 20th-century addition to the north. It is constructed of English bond brick with limestone dressings and features a half-hipped tiled roof and brick stacks. The building has a gable end facing the road and is now in an L-plan layout. The south front, which is two stories high, has a single window and a central 20th-century door set in a porch with a hipped roof. On either side of the door are two recessed chamfered cross windows, along with a moulded plinth and stone quoins. The first floor, which has been reduced in height, contains one central 20th-century casement window. The left side of the building has a two-light mullioned window on the first floor, while the right side features two 20th-century casements. The rear is made of rubble stone and includes a blocked window and a 20th-century round-arched light.
An attached wing built in the 1970s is made of brick cavity walling and has a half-hipped tiled roof. It incorporates design details that match the 17th-century building, such as a string course and stone mullioned windows with one light and three lights. The 17th-century part of the house may have been an outbuilding to a larger residence, Bishopstrow House, which was destroyed by fire around 1800 and later replaced by the current Bishopstrow House located to the north of Warminster Road. The 20th-century wing was added after 1976.
