Description
The Old Rectory is a private detached house that was originally built as a rectory in the late 17th century, with an 18th-century addition and a wing constructed in 1802 by T. Prangley of Heytesbury. The building features rubble stone construction and Welsh slate roofs, with a hipped roof on the 19th-century range and brick stacks. It consists of two parallel ranges with rear wings.
The front of the house is two stories high and has four windows, all of which are sash windows. The central porch, which is from the 19th century, is located on the gable end of the 17th-century range and includes a margin-pane glazed door and window. To the right on the ground floor, there are two 16-pane sashes, while to the left on the 19th-century range, there is a large 15-pane sash. On the first floor of the 19th-century range, there is a 12-pane sash, along with two 16-pane sashes and one 12-pane sash to the right. The 17th-century range has a steeply pitched roof with coped verges.
The left side of the building features three large 15-pane sashes on the ground floor and three 12-pane sashes on the first floor of the 1802 range, all set in plain ashlar cases and topped with a shallow pitched hipped roof. The right side has 12-pane sashes in the 18th-century ranges. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in July 1985.
