Description
No. 20 is a detached cottage located in Norton Bavant, dating from 1615, as indicated by a stone tablet on the left gable. The cottage features square-panelled timber-framing with brick nogging and a thatched roof, along with gable end brick stacks. It is a single storey with an attic and has three windows. The entrance consists of a planked and studded door set in a timber-framed gabled thatched porch, positioned to the left of centre. To the right of the porch, there are a 4-light and a 2-light casement window, and a 3-light casement window further to the right. The first floor has two 3-light leaded casements on the left attic gable and a 4-light leaded casement in an eyebrow dormer on the right.
The left return of the cottage has been rebuilt in dressed limestone, featuring a 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement with a hoodmould on the ground floor and a 2-light ovolo-mullioned casement with a hoodmould on the first floor. The right return has been rebuilt in brick. The rear of the cottage includes 20th-century casements and French windows. The interior was not accessible during the survey in July 1985 but has been recently modernised, and much of the timber-framing on the left side of the front has been renewed.
