Description

This is a milepost located about 150 metres east of the junction with the B3095 on Warminster Road in Norton Bavant. It dates from 1840 and is made of cast iron in a classical style, featuring a pedimented top and a plinth that is now sunk into the ground. The lettering is clear and reads: SALISBURY / 18 / WARMINSTER / 3. This milepost is part of a series produced by the iron founders Carson and Miller around 1840, which coincided with the implementation of the Turnpike Act for the radial system around Warminster.
