Description

Milepost in front of Southington Cottages, dating from around 1840, is a cast-iron pillar in a classical style featuring a low pedimented top and plinth. It has raised lettering on the front indicating distances: SALISBURY 8 miles and WARMINSTER 13 miles. This milepost is part of a series of cast-iron mileposts and boundary posts located on turnpikes radiating from Warminster, produced by the Warminster ironfounders Carson and Miller. It may have been slightly relocated during road improvements in the 1970s.
