Description

Seymour Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of chequered limestone and flint, with a tiled roof and gable end brick stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and originally had two windows at the front. It features casement windows; a central 6-panelled door is now set within a 20th-century gabled porch, with 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement windows on either side. The first floor also has two 3-light ovolo-mullioned casements. The left return has a 2-light casement to the ground floor and a 1-light casement to the attic. The right return features an external stone and flint stack with offsets and a datestone bearing the initials "GD 1695"; it also has a 1-light casement to the first floor and attic. The rear includes a 20th-century outshut and three gabled dormers.

The interior retains original features including moulded chamfered beams with ogee stops. A moulded stone Tudor-arched open fireplace with a herringbone brick back is in the room to the left of the front door, while the room to the right has a fireplace with a chamfered lintel with rounded corners on stone jambs and a chamfered beam with bar stops. The first floor contains a moulded stone Tudor-arched fireplace, a reset wainscot door with chip carving and cock's head hinges, a reset plank and muntin partition (originally from the ground floor), and assorted original fittings. The datestone is likely a later addition.
