Description
Stapleford Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the late 17th century, located on Church Street in Stapleford. The exterior features a combination of flint and limestone chequers, a tiled roof with coped verges, and a brick stack on the left side. The building has a gable end baffle entry and is two stories high with two windows. The left side has a 20th-century door with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, while the right side features inserted 3-light and 2-light casements in former mullioned casements, which still retain their hoodmoulds. The first floor also has 3-light and 2-light casements in former mullioned casements. The right return displays a 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould on the first and attic floors, along with coped verges. The left return includes a 1-light casement in the attic and an attached 20th-century extension with a hipped roof. The rear of the cottage has 2-light and 3-light casements. Although the interior was not accessible during the survey in August 1985, it is reported to have chamfered beams with ogee stops.
