Description

Southington is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of limestone and flint in a chequered pattern, topped with a tiled roof that features gable end brick stacks and coped verges. The house is two stories high and has three windows. The central entrance consists of a planked door with a transom light above, sheltered by a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould, and to the right is a three-light casement set into a mullioned window that is missing its mullions but retains the hoodmould. On the first floor, there are three-light mullioned casements on either side of a central two-light mullioned casement. The left and right returns of the house feature one-light casements in the attic and have attached 20th-century single-storey extensions with hipped roofs. At the rear, there are French windows to the left, a three-light casement, and a three-light ovolo-mullioned casement with a hoodmould. The first floor has additional casements and a large 20th-century gabled dormer. Inside, the house is said to have chamfered beams with run-out stops, a chamfered lintel above an open fireplace, a plank and muntin partition on the first floor, and an 18th-century two-panelled door.
