Description

Castle Cottage is a semi-detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century. It features timber framing set on a plinth of flint and rubble stone, with brick nogging and a double Roman tiled roof, along with an axial brick stack. The cottage has a central baffle entry and a gable end facing the road. It is a single storey with an attic and has two windows with casements. The gable end facing the road includes a 20th-century door and a two-light casement, with weatherboard cladding. The west side displays exposed timber framing with long braces extending from the plinth to below the eaves, along with two 20th-century casements and two gabled dormers. The rear gable end has two three-light casements on the ground floor and one four-light casement on the first floor. The east side features steel casements and a central 20th-century door, along with two gabled dormers. The interior was not accessible during the survey in September 1985, but it is reported to have chamfered beams with shaped stops and blocked open fireplaces.
