Description
Nos 14 and 16 Edward Street are two and a half storey buildings, likely dating from deeds dated 1774, and have been altered over time. They are constructed of painted brick and feature an old tile mansard roof that is hipped to the left. The façade includes three dormer windows with glazing bar sashes and architrave surrounds, along with a parapet topped with a stone cope and a moulded stone cornice.
There is a band above the ground floor that is mitred over the first floor bay windows. The first floor has two angled bays, each with three lights, flanking a central window, all of which are glazing bar sashes with moulded flush frames and dentil cornices. Originally, the bays extended to the ground floor, but they have been cut back and replaced with plate glass shop windows. The ground floor has a continuous shop front fascia with a cornice that is mitred where the former bays were, and it accommodates two separate shops with doors on the outside. The central half-glazed doorway features a narrow over light.
Of particular interest are the three gabled extensions at the rear of the buildings, two at the back of Nos 14 and 16 and one at the back of No 12. These extensions have mansard tiled roofs and pigeon openings in the gables.
