Description

Nos 22 to 26 Maristow Street is a mid to late 18th century house constructed of rendered brick with stone quoins on the east gable end. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a coved cornice at the eaves and an astragal below. It has a tiled roof with gable end chimneys and two hipped dormers, each with two-light glazing bar casements. The first floor has three windows, with the outer ones having two lights, all framed with moulded frames, mullions, and late sashes. The ground floor is affected by large shop windows flanking a central recessed entrance, with traces of a chamfered drip at the first floor level.

Inside, there is a late staircase with turned balusters. To the right of the east gable (No 22), there is a small hipped extension with an entrance featuring cut stone brackets supporting a moulded flat hood, and a glazing bar sash window with a flush moulded frame above it, topped with a pantile roof. There is also a later extension to the north with two wall chimneys, and a late 19th century gabled extension to the left, which includes a two-light stone mullion window on the first floor and a three-window return to Edward Street.

Additionally, there are railings on a dwarf wall between the east gable and No 20, with mid-19th century cast iron double gates to the yard and a gate to the garden path, featuring floral topped rails and dog rails.
