Description
Nos 5 and 7 Town Gate is a late 18th-century weaver's house that is now part of a back-to-back terrace. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features quoins. It has pitched stone slate roofs on both the north and south sides and stands three storeys tall.
On the south elevation (No 7), the ground floor has an entrance of later date and a recessed 6-light stone mullioned window. The first floor features a recessed 7-light stone mullioned window, while the second floor has another 7-light stone mullioned window. The west gable has a ground floor entrance with a deep lintel and quoins, a first-floor 2-light stone mullioned window with double chamfering, and a second-floor 2-light stone mullioned window with double chamfering, along with two later single lights at intermediate levels.
On the north elevation (No 5), the ground floor has an entrance with quoins and a former 4-light stone mullioned window that has been much enlarged with new surrounds and mullions. The first floor contains a recessed 5-light stone mullioned window, and the second floor has another 5-light stone mullioned window.
