919/0/10055 CHURCH LANE 27-NOV-03 (West,off) Boer War Memorial to the SE of St Bartholomew's Church
GV II Monument. 1904. Ashlar. Square in plan, with a low chamfered stone base. The lower section has three steps. The second has a carved relief of rifles, wreaths and helmet. Middle section has the following inscription within an arched panel. "This monument was erected by public subscription in memory of 6119 Pte. Joshua C Mellor, Vol 1st West Riding Regt. Died at Bloemfontein, June 22nd 1900, 9627 Pte. Wm Hey of the 2nd Scots Guards Died at Harrismith Decr. 28th 1900, 3845 Corpl. Thos. Dearnley Jany. 3rd 1901." Above the moulded cap is surmounted by an octagonal broacheed spire with a large ornate finial.
